Pink Electrolyte Bites

Pink Electrolyte Bites

Electrolytes are minerals that have an electric charge and are found in blood, urine, body tissues, and other body fluids. Therefore, they are important to optimal health because they assist with water balance, pH balance, nutrient transport, waste removal, and ensures all body organs and muscles function properly.

Electrolytes are macro minerals that are found in all foods, which consist of calcium, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, sodium, and chloride. They are considered essential nutrients that must be supplied in the diet because the body is unable to synthesize sufficient amounts.

For dogs with more than three hours of activity a day, especially in hot/humid climates, giving an electrolyte boost is beneficial. In times of high activity, a dog’s water intake increases as well as their need for electrolytes. A solution based remedy would be to dilute coconut water and homemade bone broth to add into their drinking water; this helps to increase the mineral intake in addition to the increase fluids.

Coconut water and bone broth lack fat and carbohydrates. In addition to the beneficial minerals, this Pink Electrolyte Bite recipe includes saturated fats and a moderate amount of carbohydrates to provide an energy boost.
